Angela Angel is an experienced attorney, dedicated public servant, and passionate organizer who has worked at the county, state and federal levels to make a real difference in her community.
Education laid the foundation for Angela’s advocacy and professional career, having attended Hampton University, a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in Virginia, and later graduating from Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University. She is a former prosecutor who spent years tackling some of New York City’s toughest child abuse and neglect cases.
Angela’s personal experiences drive her desire to serve. In 2012, Angela found herself pregnant with her fifth child, homeless and fleeing an abusive marriage. Two years later, Angela won a seat in the House of Delegates in the Maryland General Assembly, where she took on prescription drug companies, fought for historic protections for staffers experiencing sexual harrassment, and passed legislation to address foreclosures and blight in our neighborhoods. As a single mother, Angela has fought to make sure that every child receives a world class public education, and she authored legislation to ensure that all families have access to quality mental health care that they need to thrive.
Angela’s mother taught her to be fearless and compassionate. Her father taught her how to fight for others. Angela’s faith is her bedrock and what carried her through when she needed it most. She attends First Baptist Church of Glenarden, and understands the role that God played in helping her overcome challenges. She believes being in elected office is about walking in an anointing of service, not playing politics.
Prior to her election to the Maryland House of Delegates, Angela worked for President Obama’s campaign, for now-Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), Governor Martin O’Malley, the Prince George County’s delegation in the Maryland General Assembly, and Prince George’s Councilmember Derrick Leon Davis. She served as Counsel to the Prince George’s County Department of Environment during her time in the House, and served as Director of Black Engagement for Pete Buttigieg’s 2020 presidential campaign.
Angela will bring the perspective of a working mother who has fought to improve the quality of life for all of our families, and the heart of a champion who will never stop fighting for the people of Prince George's County.
Angela currently works as a political advisor to non-profit advocacy organizations across the country. She resides in the city of District Heights, Maryland with her children and their cat, Salem and dog Bailey.
